I took several shots and this was about the best. One of them was to get a good photo of the milky way. The over-riding objective of my trip -my #1 goal, was to make it to the 10,000+ foot (3000+ meter) summit of Picacho Del Diablo. It appears brightest near Saggittarius because that is the bulge at the galatic center. So the hazy white glow or band we see as the Milky Way is actually the disk of the galaxy looking right through the thickness of the galatic plane. The galaxy is basically, something like our solar system, a rotating disk with some 300 billion stars and a bulge at the center. In my photo here you can see the central core part of the Galaxy near the constellation Sagittarius. But it also can mean the Galaxy itself as in The 'Milky Way Galaxy'. The term 'Milky Way' can refer to the pale band of light formed by the plane of the galaxy, as seen in the night sky under only the darkest and clearest conditions.
